How many kids can fit in the cargo box?

The bike comes equipped with 2 benches and 4 child seat belts, so 4 children could fit inside the box. You can install a standard bike child seat on the rear rack to add one more.

Can the seats be removed?

Each bench is secured by 4 bolts, and can be easily removed with a phillips head screwdriver and 10mm wrench.

Can you put an infant car seat in the cargo bike?

Yes. Most infant car seats will fit between the two benches (without the base). For a more permanent solution, you could remove one of the benches, and bolt the car seat base to the floor of the cargo box. This would require drilling holes for the bolts in both the cargo box and the car seat base.

Will the seat belts fit my child?

Yes. The seat belts are designed to fit every size child. Each shoulder strap is adjustable. The straps attach to the cargo box with a nut and bolt, and each seat belt has extra length with 4 different bolt holes, so that the straps can installed to fit securely on both small and large children.

Will the cargo bike fit through my front door or narrow spaces?

Our 3-wheel model is 34” wide at its widest point (between the frame on either side of the cargo box). This is a narrow fit into 36” wide exterior doors. Our 2-wheel cargo bike model is currently being prototyped, and it will be thinner than the 3-wheel.

Do you make a 2-wheel cargo bike?

Yes! We are currently prototyping our 2-wheel model, which is similar in style to the 3-wheel (black frame, wooden box in front). These should be available at the beginning of 2018.

I'm really tall (or really short). Will I be able to ride the bike?

The bicycle saddle and handlebars were designed with a lot of room for adjustment. The bike can accommodate rider heights of 5’2” to 6’7”. Most riders will be able to ride the bike sitting fully upright, while taller riders (like our 6’7” founder) will need to have a slight forward lean when riding. To lower the saddle for a rider shorter than 5’6”, the rear rack needs to be removed. Both the seat and the handlebars have quick-release levers that make it easy to adjust the bike for different sized riders, without any tools.

My neighborhood has some hills. Is it hard to ride the bike uphill?

For a neighborhood that is mostly flat, but has occasional short hills, the non-electric cargo bike works great. The bike is equipped with 6-speed Shimano shifters, and is easy to pedal up short hills in the lowest gears. If your neighborhood is really hilly (looking at you San Francisco), you should consider the electric version. The electric motor takes most of the work out of pedaling uphill, and it doesn’t feel any more difficult than riding on level ground.

How do I transport the cargo bike with my car?

Great question, and I wish we had a great answer. We're doing research now into different vehicle and rack types, and hope to have some transport solutions to recommend by August 2017. If you’re taking the bike on vacation, a small U-Haul utility trailer can be rented for a very affordable rate, especially if there is a U-Haul drop-off location near your destination.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept all major credit cards through our secure checkout provided by Shopify. We also accept Apple Pay, Amazon Pay, and Paypal. We offer 12-18 month payment plans on our bikes through Klarna. Select “Klarna: Buy Now, Pay Later” at checkout to get instantly approved.

Do you offer any financing options on the bikes?

Yes. We offer financing options on our bikes through Klarna. At checkout, after entering in your shipping information, select “Klarna: Buy Now, Pay Later” as your payment method, and you will be instantly shown what financing options are available to you.

Why are your business hours only from 10:00 AM to 3:00PM?

We are a small family-owned business. A family with a toddler and 3 month old at home. We want families to spend time together enjoying their community, and that’s the life we live on a daily basis. Leave us a voicemail. We’ll see it, and return your call next day. Promise. Or, after hours, you can email or social message us, and we will probably get back to you even faster.

Do you have a dealer in my area where I can test-ride an Urban Tribe?

No. At this time, we only sell directly to customers through our website. If you live in Texas, you’re welcome to stop by our Denton warehouse for a test ride on one of the bikes.

How long does it take to receive my bike after I place my order?

Currently, the first batch of bikes are in production, so all orders are considered “pre-orders”. All summer pre-ordered bikes will ship at the end of October 2017 when we have them assembled and in stock.

What do you mean by Pre-Order? How does that work?

We are selling bikes that are not yet in stock. Because of this, the prices on the site are at a deep discount off of the retail. As we are a small startup business, the pre-orders are helping us to finance the manufacturing run on the first limited batch of cargo bikes. To reserve your bike, you must complete an order through our website and pay in full, unless you’ve chosen a financing option through Klarna. The bikes will be shipped out when they are assembled and ready, at the end of October 2017.

Do you ship to Hawaii, Alaska, or internationally?

Yes. We are able to ship anywhere in the world. For those living in HI, AK, or outside the U.S., please contact us first with your name and address, and we will obtain a shipping quote for you.

How much does shipping cost?

Our bikes are shipped by LTL freight, and the rates are determined based on distance from our Denton, TX warehouse. We have 4 shipping "zones", each with a flat shipping rate. The rate for Zone 1 is $195, and includes TX, NM, OK, KS, MO, AR, LA, MS, AL. The rate for Zone 2 is $231, and incudes AZ, UT, CO, WY, NE, SD, IA, IL, KY, TN, GA, SC, FL. The rate for Zone 3 is $265, and includes CA, NV, ID, MT, ND, MN, WI, MI, IN, OH, PA, WV, VA, NC, MD. The rate for Zone 4 is $295, and includes OR, WA, NY, DE, NJ, CT, RI, MA, NH, VT, ME. For those living in HI, AK, or outside the U.S., please contact us first with your name and address, and we will obtain a shipping quote for you.

Do you offer local pick-up?

Yes. Select Local Pick Up at checkout to waive the shipping charge. Then, send us an email at info@urbantribecargobicycles.com to schedule a time to pick-up your bike from our Denton, TX warehouse.

Do the cargo bikes ship fully assembled?

Yes. Your cargo bike will be fully assembled and ready to ride out of the box.

What if I buy something and want to return it? What is your return policy?

All sales of cargo bikes are final and we do not accept returns, unless the bike is defective upon arrival. Unopened and unused accessories can be returned within 30 days, with the customer being responsible for return shipping. What is the warranty on your bicycles?

We cover the following under a 2 year warranty: 1) The battery and motor system, including control panel and switch. 2) The frame for defects caused by corrosion or fatigue but excluding corrosion caused by scratch penetration of powder coating. 3) The wooden panels of the cargo box – includes delamination of wood but excludes any deterioration of wood caused by penetration of the protective surface by wear and tear or deep scratching. 4) Non “wear and tear” items including the following: Saddle, Seat Post, Brake Calipers, Brake Levers, Gear Shifter, Rear Rack, Pivot shaft and bearings. The following items are considered “wear and tear” items and are not covered under any warranty: Tires, Inner Tubes, Valves, Wheels, Spokes, Brake Pads, Handlebar Grips, Bell, Chain, Gear Cables, Brake Cables, Fenders, Reflectors, Rain Cover, Loose nuts or bolts. The warranty starts the day of delivery, is non-transferable, and expires in the case of improper use or inadequate maintenance. Improper use is defined as riding directly up and down curbs, side impact against curbs, riding on two wheels (on a 3-wheel bike), loading of the cargo box above the maximum load of 220 pounds, damage arising from exceeding the design speed of the cycle or extended off road use (i.e. racing), damage as a result of an impact caused in an accident or malicious damage, using the bike in any commercial application such as renting or marketing, or if the standard components on the bike have been upgraded, modified, or removed. Urban Tribe reserves the right to decide the cause of any warranty claim items, and our judgement is binding.

I need some repairs done on my bike. Do you have any authorized servicers?

No, we don't. Any local bike shop should be capable of repairing, replacing, or servicing the components of our cargo bicycles. In the event of a crash or damage to the frame, contact your local metal fabricator/welder. If you encounter a malfunction with the electrical system (motor, control panel, or battery), please contact us at info@urbantribecargobicycles.com and we will troubleshoot the issue, or replace the part (within the 2 years covered under warranty), as necessary.

How long does the battery last on the electric model?

Depending on your physical fitness and the speed you ride the bike a battery can last anything from 10-30 miles. If you ride with the power on all the time (for speed) but assist as much as you can with pedaling, you should get between 15-20 miles. If you hardly pedal at all and expect the bike to do nearly all of the work for you – you will be lucky to reach 10 miles from a charge.

How long does the battery take to charge?

It takes 6-8 hours to fully charge the battery. The battery is removable, and we recommend charging it at home overnight, or at work during the day.

What are the dimensions of the cargo box?

34.5”L x 24.25”W x 20”H

What are the dimensions of the rear rack?

18”L x 6”W. The rack will hold standard size panniers and bike bags. The rack could also be used to mount an additional child seat.

How much weight can you put in the cargo box?

The cargo box area of the box is rated to hold 220 pounds.

Are there gears on the cargo bike?

Yes. The cargo bikes are equipped with a 6-speed Shimano shifter and derailleur.

What kind of brakes are on the bikes?

Our cargo bikes are equipped with Avid BB5 mechanical disc brakes on the front wheels, and “V-Brakes” on the rear wheel.

What is the total weight of the bike?

The total weight of the electric 3-wheel cargo bike is 129 pounds. The total weight of non-electric 3 wheel cargo bike is 120 pounds.

What is the cargo bike made of?

Our cargo bike frames are made of hi-tensile steel. The cargo box is made of plywood.

What are the sizes of the wheels?

On the 3-wheel cargo bike, the front wheels are 20" and the rear wheel is 24".

Does the Bike have a rain cover?

Yes, however as of July 2017, we're still finalizing the design. All pre-ordered bikes will ship with a "beta test" rain cover, at no extra charge, in order for us to field test them and see how they stand up to normal wear and tear. After we get back feedback from our initial customers, we will make any necessary changes, and then offer the rain cover as an accessory upgrade on our website.
